Re: Quotations - II

Lots of Einstein, but not my favorites.

"If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?"
- Albert Einstein

"Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen."
- Albert Einstein

God may be subtle, but He isn't plain mean. -- Albert Einstein

The hardest thing in the world to understand is the income tax. -- Albert Einstein

"If the facts don't fit the theory, change the facts." --Albert Einstein

and Finally

"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." --Albert Einstein

I like the paraphrase of the JRR Tolkien quote:

Re: Quotations - II

I always liked one I saw attached to the bottom of another sysadmins email. It was something like:

"Admin who play in root...kill tree!"

Re: Quotations - II

A few taken from the Lun Yu (writings of Confucius)

A scholar with his heart set on property is not worthy to be called a scholar.

With wisdom, there is no delusion
With benevolence, these is no worry
With courage, there is no fear

Learn as if behind, and still be afraid of losing what has been learned.

There are men who invent what they do not know

To learn without thinking is labour in vain. To think without learning is desolation.

Exploring the old, and deducing the new makes a teacher.

The craftsman who wishes to work well has first to sharpen his tools.

Having made a mistake, not to correct it is a mistake indeed.

Only the wisest and most dull-witted are unchangeable.

"You can only be young once, but you can be immature forever." -- Larry Anderson

"The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not 'Eureka!', but 'That's funny . . .'" -- Isaac Asimov

"The mind, once expanded to the dimensions of larger ideas, never returns to its original size." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.

More Mark Twain:

"First, get the facts, then you can distort them at your leisure."

"It is a weak mind that can think of only one way to spell a word."

"I'd rather go to heaven for the climate, Hell for the company."

"There's lies, damn lies, and statistics."

"You cannot depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus."

"Clothes make the man. Naked people have little influence on society."

"Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated."

And, just for a bit of irreverant humor:

"If Christ had died in the 20th century, Catholics would be wearing little electric chairs around their necks." -- Lenny Bruce

"There's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore like a fool." -- Steven Wright

Finally, my new Holstein motto:

To err is human, to moo bovine!

A couple of my favoites.

I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachements of those in power than the violent and sudden usurptatations.

Those who do not remember history are doomed to repeat it.

Re: Quotations - II

Hmnnnnnn....no Philosophers out there?

No one replied to my:

Answer this question.

Following logic, one would reply:

That's not a question, that's a statement.

Then I would say:

That's the answer....
