Telnet problem on hpux 11.0

Hi,

I have 712 workstation running 11.0. This m/c was running very slow and it used to work normally for sometime after reboot. I checked up on the console of the m/c and found that m/c is not able to ping beyond it's default gateway. On the other hand i was able to telnet to this m/c from my host which is on different subnet but it was very slow.
So i reconfigured the network settings using "set_parms initial". Now system is able to ping beyond it's gateway and also seems to be stable. But some times when i do telnet to this m/c it hangs without giving login prompt, if i open another telnet session to the same m/c it prompts for login with out any problem.

What could be wrong??

Re: Telnet problem on hpux 11.0

hi,
Seems there is a mismatch of Duplex settings of your network card and the switch where it is connected.
Please check the duplex setting at the switch side of the Lan.(or ask your networking guy to check it)
And then check the Card's Duplex setting i.e. FULL or HALF Duplex.
In HP it seems to be a problem with autonegotiation make it OFF and set the Duplex to the same as the switch.

Re: Telnet problem on hpux 11.0

Praveen,

Do you have a high load on this "small"-system?
It can be that sometimes your system can not allocate enough resource or is out of processes?

Just some thoughts,

Hi,

Please ensure that you don't have a duplicate IP-address.
Also you can check /etc/nsswitch.conf file. If you don't use NIS and DNS and these entries are mentioned in the file, you can have big delay in network responce.

Re: Telnet problem on hpux 11.0

Thanks for the responce. I figured out that if i telnet from a windows pc to this hpux box i am facing this problem but if i telnet from another hpux box to this then there is no problem. So what i did is i took a Windows pc and removed DNS, WINS settings, i entred host entry for hpux workstation in hosts file on windows pc. Now there seems to be no problem.

It looks like many people have faced this problem, following are few threds which i found intresting:

Re: Telnet problem on hpux 11.0

insf -e will resinstall all the driver files which has been missing in the kernel and the actual device exists and used for restoring the device files when they have removed

As manikandan told, man insf for more details

With best wishes
