The very first access to the device is ok, then the device is blocked until reboot.

Device /dev/st0 is busy

In /var/log/messages, it says:

The informations:
OS: RHEL3 Updt 4

Server=ML370-G4

DAT=HP SureStore internal DAT 72Go
#cat /proc/scsi/scsi
Attached devices:
Host: scsi1 Channel: 00 Id: 05 Lun: 00
Vendor: HP Model: C7438A Rev: ZP5A
Type: Sequential-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 03

SCSI controller:
02:03.0 SCSI storage controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic 53c1030 PCI-X Fusion-MPT Dual Ultra320 SCSI (rev 08)

Re: HP DAT on HP server blocking with Linux

Shalom Louis,

This is usually a problem with being off the support matrix. If every component is on the matrix than you probably have a driver issue or perhaps its not installed correctly.

Seems that all the hardware is compatible, so you may have a lack of scsi termination or a bad scsi card or cable. Cables are cheap, so I'd try replacing that first.

Re: HP DAT on HP server blocking with Linux

It seems that there is no hardware problem, because:
- the DAT works well when it is attached to an other server with Unixware
- with an other model of DAT, it works well on the Linux server (so the SCSI card and the cable seem good).

Re: HP DAT on HP server blocking with Linux

I assume you're running the latest eratta kernels on that RHEL3 box?

I take it you're swapping the external-drive without power-cycling the machine?

How are you getting the machine to re-read the SCSI bus?
One long-haired git at your service...

Re: HP DAT on HP server blocking with Linux

You'll need the latest firmware and drivers for the LSI card...
