HP CD-writer 8200 series external

Hi, I'm running win XP with a HP CD-writer 8200 series external (when it is detected it is called a HP CD-writer + 8290 USB device). The drive is not recognised by most cd recording software, in particular any software that allows me to make VCD's (Nero, VCDeasy, Easy CD creator). I have download what I believe to be the latest drivers. Can anyone offer some advice?

I am having the same problem with getting Nero to work with my external 8290 drive. Nero says it supports the 8200 series and I have the latest software installed, but it will not recognize my drive.

I have been able to get the drive to work with HP RecordNow, but for anyone who has used and liked Nero, anything else pales in comparison.

Any advice is appreciated.

You will have to download the HP driver for XP from download drivers and softwares updates section and install. Then install the Nero or Roxio software.

Also check with Roxio (www.roxio.com) and see if they support this drive

The problem is actually with the file "wnaspi32.dll" which you will find in your Nero folder. The most recent version of Nero (5.5.9.9, I believe) includes the 2.0.1.50 version of wnaspi32.dll WHICH DOES NOT WORK with HP external drives for some reason. I have attached the 2.0.1.16 version. After you install whatever version you have, paste this file into the Nero folder and overwrite the wnaspi32.dll.

Finally some advice that works! (replacing wnaspi32.dll version 2.0.1.50 with version 2.0.1.16)

You saved my HP 8290 from being replaced by a non-hp product! People keep telling me to download the latest XP/HP drivers, but you can do this until the cows come home and it doesn't work.

I'm having a similar problem using Windows XP and my HP 9900ci drive.

I couldn't download it either, but i did a search for "wnaspi32.dll" in google and found plenty of sites where i could download the file.

I have nero 5.5.9.15 and I am not being able to replace the .dll file. Nero says that it is a BAD FILE!

So, the *only* way people have found to the 8200e's to work is using Nero with an older version of that one file?

It seems like HP could make better software than that, or at least could tell people that. I just had a few emails with Support and all they did was have me do standard things like checking that my USB hub had power.

Maybe HP should work out a deal with the Nero people to offer it to HP's customers instead of RecordNow or HP's DLA.

Your help is excellent!! I am running under Windows 2000 and no longer would Nero recognize my HP 8200e. I tried the latest version of wnaspi32.dll (2.0.1.59) from the latest version of Nero but it didn't work. Now that I have backed down to (2.0.1.16 - while still keeping the latest version of Nero) my CD burner works again! Thank you so very much!!! I am going ot report this to Nero to be sure they know, and hopefully they can fix their DLL.

I tried to download this and every version found of wnaspi32.dll, and every time I try to select the 8200 in Nero, it tells me "Sorry, you can only use cd-writers that were bundled with this software" or something to that effect. If I put the .59 file back in the directory, it will let me into Nero but not show the HP burner. I have the latest version of Nero downloaded from their web site, tried re-entering my serial number and it doesn't help. Any ideas?

Grrr.... Nevermind. I used a WAY OLD serial number from an OEM I had lyin around somewhere. Found my bought copy of the program and re-entered that serial, it works fine now. Good job everyone!

Have you tried Nero 6 ultra Edition works fine, you do not have to put anything, it works "as is", with CDRW is great

I did try a couple of months ago with Nero 6 Ultra, and it did *not* work.

I'll have to see if there are any updates, and try again..
