Convert Raid 5 to Raid 10
Hi All,
I have below setup in my new DL 365 Gen10 plus servers and would want to know that whether we can convert Raid 5 to Raid 10 without losing any data?
3 drives in Raid 5 - running OS and application
1 unused drive
The question is can we add the 4th drive and convert the RAID into Raid10?
HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10
Regards,
Sandeep

Re: Convert Raid 5 to Raid 10
Yes this is possible. Make sure you have a backup of the data before you proceed.
This feature is called "migrate RAID level" and requires Caching to be enabled.
Depeding on the size of the array this process can take a while. Personally, I would recreate the array and restore the data from backup.
Procedure:
- Expand RAID 5 array with 4th drive : HPE Smart Array SR Gen10 User Guide - Expand array / HPE Smart Storage Administrator User Guide - Configuration tasks (page 22)
- Extend existing logical drive: HPE Smart Array SR Gen10 User Guide - Extend logical drive / HPE Smart Storage Administrator User Guide - Configuration tasks (page 23)
- Migrate RAID 5 to RAID 10: HPE Smart Array SR Gen10 User Guide - Migrate RAID level / HPE Smart Storage Administrator User Guide - Configuration tasks (page 23)
Optional:
- Configure transformation priority: HPE Smart Array SR Gen10 User Guide - Transformation priority / HPE Smart Storage Administrator User Guide - Changing the Expand Priority setting (page 78)

Re: Convert Raid 5 to Raid 10
You cant do it without formatting the disks and you need minimum 4 disks to do RAID 10.
If you have 4 disks, first take a full backup of server.

Re: Convert Raid 5 to Raid 10
Hi Sandeep,
Converting from Raid 5 to Raid 10 involves some risks. Ensure you back up your data before attempting. Consult HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10 documentation or support for compatibility. Check if your server supports hot-swapping for a smoother process. Good luck!
Best,
Johir
