HPE user_token not working for firmware updates

Hi, i am trying to run firmware updates from HPE intelligent provisioning. I already have the user_token.txt from HPE support center saved in a USB stick and is plugged in during the update process. When i select firmware update and select the usb key that contains the token. it just doesnt do anything and goes back to selecting updates. what step am i missing?

Re: HPE user_token not working for firmware updates

Issue :- firmware updates via HPE Intelligent Provisioning using a user_token.txt file saved on a USB drive and system fails to proceed and loops back to the update selection after you select the USB key.

Kindly the following details:

  • The model and generation of the server you are using.
  • The exact error message you are encountering (if any).

In the meantime, please refer to the following guide on updating firmware using Intelligent Provisioning:

Re: HPE user_token not working for firmware updates

Hello I am having this same issue and I have not been able to resolve this.

I have a Gen 11 server with ILO 1.67

When I initially try to begin the firmware update I have the available vs current firmware update screen, which in itself is weird because it is showing versions of software available that appear to be older than the current version.

But then it says to select the ilo first and update it before anything else, so when I choose that is looks like itr recognizes the usb, but I select it and hit OK and then the screen dissapears. Any additional help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Re: HPE user_token not working for firmware updates

We've been a Lenovo shop until recently when I bought a DL360 G11.  The firmware update during Intelligent Provisioning also confused me.  However, prior to installing my OS I first downloaded the latest SPP support pack iso and booted my server with it - this automatically updates all firmware and iLo files.  So it occurred to me that this was probably better than trying to update firmware during the OS install anyway.

I have seen several comments regarding  people cautioning AGAINST firmware updates in Intelligent Provisioning...  Seems like it might be more trouble than it's worth.

Perhaps consider using the SPP update process and then skipping the FW update option in Intelligent Provisioning?
