Rebuild array from sas to ssd without data lost
I have ProLiant DL380 Gen9 (P440r) with raid50 with sas disks.
1 sas disk failed and I`d like to change all sas disks for SSDs.
Is it possible to do it without data lost? There is a nod from Proxmox cluster and plan B is making fresh instalation but I`d like to try to do without data lost.

Re: Rebuild array from sas to ssd without data lost
hello,
well i've done it on a dl380 gen8 (or 9) and you have to backup the content of the logical drive inside the array, delete the array, build a new array and logical drive with the ssd and restore the backup.
i did this way because i didnt have any more room to add more disks. if you have slots to install the new ssd disks, then just install them, build the raid array and logical drive and then copy all the data from one array to other.
you can not mix ssd drives with hdd drives and you can not mix sata drives with sas drives.

Re: Rebuild array from sas to ssd without data lost
I have anoither array from but it seems the best wa will be destroy sas array and make new one from ssd.and then make fresh install of OS...because Proxmox has no smart way to backup&testore still.

Re: Rebuild array from sas to ssd without data lost
Hello,
HPE would recommend to
1. Take a valid back-up.
2. Replace all SAS Drives with SSDтАЩs.
3. Re-Create the Arrays and Logical Drives.
4. Restore from Back-up.
Regards.

Re: Rebuild array from sas to ssd without data lost
You can't mix SAS HDD and SSD in the same array, so you can't just remove a SAS HDD, replace it with an SSD to let it rebuild. Best option that was already mentioned is to backup or image the existing volume, swap the HDD for SSD, recreate the RAID volume and restore from backup or image.

Re: Rebuild array from sas to ssd without data lost
I`ve made a fresh install of OS (Proxmox) in new array but I have next problem with this fresh install.
Node is randomly dosconnected from cluster and I`m able to reconnect it via restarted cluster services but server can`t see NFS storage anymore.
I have to restart OS and then node working properly several days.
I think there can be problem with controller cache, Cache is disabled in defalut. I have a twin server node5 (with old sas disks) and there is cache disabled.
=> controller all show status
Smart Array P440ar in Slot 0 (Embedded)
Controller Status: OK
Cache Status: Permanently Disabled
I`ve enabled cache via smart administration after reboot node 4 (smart ssd cache) btu I`m not sure why I can see via cli this:
Smart Array P440ar in Slot 0 (Embedded)
Controller Status: OK
Cache Status: Not Configured
Battery/Capacitor Status: OK
And this message from the both node is total confusing for me
SSD Caching RAID5 WriteBack Enabled: True
What`s the best scenario.? Disable cache with sas disks and enable with ssd?
Why I can see cache is not configured? I have to enable and then configured it again?

Re: Rebuild array from sas to ssd without data lost
Hello,
Please make sure you have the latest Controller FIrmware installed.
> Ensure that the power cable between the FBWC module and the PCI Riser is present and connected properly.
> Replace the Smart Storage Battery first, if the problem persists, you need to replace the control card. because the cache module is embedded.
