Welcome 2022, and a look back on Compute in the year that was 2021
2021 certainly turned out to be a different kind of year than what we had hoped and planned for. And as we enter the first few weeks of the new year, we find ourselves diligently working from our home offices, still meeting with customers and partners on Zoom, and facing โ it would seem โ yet another spike in Covid-related illnesses as the holiday season wanes.
Throughout the year, the fact that we were no longer commuting into our offices or meeting face-to-face with colleagues had little to do with the pace of change that we all experienced. Thankfully, we had the technology tools at our disposal to facilitate communications and help our customers, partners and employees keep forging ahead despite the looming global health crises. The Compute Team here at HPE is proud that we have been able to continue to introduce new products, provide new HPE GreenLake services, and share pertinent information with all members of our Servers and Systems eco-system.
With this as a backdrop, Iโd like to share some of the milestones and achievements we accomplished in 2021.
In the Spring of 2021, we announced enhanced capabilities for HPE OneView, enabling customers to automate IT operations and simplify infrastructure lifecycle management across compute, storage, and networking. We also introduced new HPE ProLiant Servers and HPE Apollo Systems, powered by AMD EPYC processors, which currently hold 32 world recordsโachieving leadership positions in virtualization, energy efficiency, database analytic workloads, and Java applications.
April brought about our highly anticipated HPE Compute Day when we announced our HPE Gen10 Plus Intelยฎ Servers and further explored the Compute engines that power digital transformation. As your organization evolves its edge-to-hybrid approach in support of new business models, it is our intention that these new Compute work-horses unlock your potential for greater agility and operational efficiency, while fueling the innovation enabled by digital transformation.
We plan to build on these key portfolio introductions as we see traction and enthusiasm from our customers and partners in 2022. And speaking of what is ahead in FY22: we will continue to evolve our HPE theme of *everything-as-a-service* and will have some key announcements that we believe are well-positioned to launch our enhanced Server and Systems portfolio, bringing you improved performance, efficiency and agility.
HPE also unveiled 3rd Gen Intelยฎ Xeon scalable servers that highlight the flexible rack mount of the HPE ProLiant DL360 and DL380 servers, the density-optimized HPE Synergy 480 systems, and the highly dense HPE Apollo 2000 systems. These platforms leverage the Intel 3rd Gen Xeon Scalable processors that feature enhanced compute processing performance and PCIe Gen4 โ while delivering significantly faster system performance and much greater memory capacity.
Looking at thought leadership: BIG ideas for BIG challenges
Security
It might surprise you to learn that cybercrime is one of the worldโs largest industries. Yes. โ You read that correctly. It's expected to grow to over $10 trillion dollars by 2025, expanding at a staggering rate of roughly 15% each year.
Two out of three companies expect that their greatest IT spend will be on fortifying cyber defenses, with an expected 3.5 million security jobs dedicated to the protection of digital assets. What this means for your organization โ basically โ trust nothing, verify everything.
Securing your data center also requires an impenetrable supply chain foundation. Any disruptions and risk to the integrity of the products or services you deliver can have long-lasting damaging operational, financial and brand consequences.
Digital Transformation
In the past five years, organizations have been rapidly replacing their traditional interactions with digital experiences powered by technology advances. A business that embraces change and adapts to a more agile model has the potential to be more successful than ever. This is because digital transformation examines all aspects of a business and determines how to modernize them so that they can continue to evolve with technology advances.
Data Management
The immense amount of data being generated by businesses is only useful if you know how to capture and leverage insights from it. Data-intensive applications, analytics solutions, and services deployment will be at the center of corporate technology investments for the foreseeable future. This data must be stored, secured, and accessible as part of a company-wide data-management effort. Businesses of all sizes must learn how to turn data into actionable insights and value to continue to innovate and remain competitive.
These are just a few of the highlights from the past year, and as you can see โ it has been quite a unique and productive ride. As we re-enter the workplace after having celebrated the many holidays of the season with family and friends, the HPE Compute team wishes you a healthy. productive, joy-filled 2022.
Cheers to you! We look forward to working together in 2022.
Warm regards,
Gary
