Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Hi Dan,
This is not an issue, so much as a request/question.
Is there anything in the works, to allow a user to post points for all resonders to a message at one time?
I seem to remember this mentioned a couple of months back but do not remember the answer.
The advantage as a user would be a nice time savings for members in that we wouldn't have to continually click back into our message, go to the next user add their points and do this over again until all points are posted.
Thank you,
Kel

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Dan-

The last couple days, I've been having threads and pages that give me errors the first time I click on it, but load on a refresh. Kinda hit and miss on when and where, but I've been meaning on just thowing that out there.

Also, I just have a suggestion. I notice that there are now 795 pages of threads. If I want to find something from a few days ago, I will just start marching back through the pages. It occured to me, though, that if I wanted to look for something, say, two or three months ago, I would be hopping a lot of pages. What if I was looking back to last year? Would it be possible to have, in addition to the last 10 pages, something where I could put in the page I wanted to go to? I know that I could use the search, but I was thinking more on principle? Just a thought.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Hi Sachin, thanks for the note...others have reported this about a month ago, but I haven't heard anything more. I'll get this reported.

Hi Kelli, yes we have a more suitable points assignment tool in the works. It will be much easier to assign points, but won't have a global assign ability. Standby, as it should be part of a release in coming months.

Hi Mark, yes, good idea. I'll get it reported and see what would be needed.

Thanks again,
Dan

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Hi Dan & Mark:

Mark, there is a way to "cheat" and obtain a binary search of the growing wealth of the Forum pages.

Consider the case where you are browsing the HP-UX FamilyHome, perhaps awaiting a new post upon which to jump!

Notice the URL is of the form:

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/FamilyHome/1,,117!1!1,00.html

The portion immediately before the ".html" is the page number key. Shown above is page-1. To jump to page-10, change the last part which reads "1,00.html" to "10,00.html". To skip to the last page (at this writing, page 796) modify the URL to:

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/FamilyHome/1,,117!1!796,00.html

...and volia...

Regards!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Dan

we all give our time to the cause I am just a starter.

I find it hard to understand when someone gets ten points several hours later after the previous message gave the same answer. NOT an alternative !!!

still we are here to contribute for as little or as much it might be worth.

Alas I have learnt so much in the last month, thsnks to all you guys for making this possible.

please no points

John.

Here is one that i have started to notice. If you are not the "postie" or person who writes the original post. And you choose the "notify me" option. I do not get email notification if the owner of the post posts them. But I do get them if anyone posts.

Speed is up! More reliable than middle march :)

Still unable to use Opera to reply, post new, or asign point (does that guy never stop posting that Opera noise?-) - No he won't until it works, either by Opera solving the problem, or HP).

I've promoted the problem to internal guys and galls with Opera and expect some answers realy soon

Mozilla now works OK

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Dan,

Can we have the points assignment record corresponding to the name of a poster in the author section? For eg, when somebody submits a question, his point assignment should be shown corresponding to his name, like 10/100 which means he assigned points to 10 responses out of 100.

thanks

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Mind the fence RajMan! I'd not like messages older than a year to be counted. If someone has changed his life for the better, it would be unfair to show how many unasigned messages he left behind in the past, while asigning 100% in the last 4 month.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Richard,

Interesting. Obviously, if you are the original author of a question message and you select "send me email whenever somebody replies", you will be notified.

However, if you are a *reader* and choose "notify me", you should be notified regardless of who posts a reply (original author versus reader). I'll test this out and get it reported if it is indeed true.

Thanks for the note....
Dan

Hi All,

I was informed much of the ITRC was down for the past hour due to a database problem. The support team has resolved the issue. I apologize for the inconvenience. We can now get our forums fix for today!

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Dan-

I have been having a bear of a time today. The site is rather slow in general, and I have gotten a number of SSI errors trying to refresh the main page and server not found errors when trying to respond to posts (http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x5b5c62116946d6118fff0090279cd0f9,00.html for example just now)

Don't know if something is up but thought I'd let you know.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Hi Dan,

lately I have to login everyday again to post some answers. Is there something or did I switched option of IE again???

Another thing, I just wanted to look how many point our friend Wodisch (http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/UserProfile/1,,BR8935!1,00.html) has, but somehow his profile doesn't appear right. I have attached a screenshot of it in case you can't reproduce it.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Jasper,

I think Wodisch has found a way to get his quote inserted in the area normally used by the cartoon.
That's the way I'm seeing it using Netscape 6.1 on a Sun Ultra.
Don't know how but that may be wigging out your browser.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

I thought I saw a ghost in the forum. I had read a message in the morning (GMT+8) and could not find it in the afternoon. When I tried to search the message from the search engine, I found it, but all the replies had gone. There are at least 9 replies to this message but all had gone. What happened?

Regards,
Kenny.

Re: Please Report Forums Issues - April 2002!

Dan

last night I managed to submit a question without a description. Today the question has been removed from the forum - GOOD - however when I do a search I can still find the question but not the replies to the question which I know existed because two of them are mine. Is this deliberate ? or does the sytem not cleanly remove the question and answers ?

cheers
John.
