FWIW Same as Pete. About 30 minutes of stalling. Can't remember the time, because I also could not post to issues, and another issue caught my attention during that :)

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for December 2002!

Hi Dan,

The search is being a bit weird. I can search and get no results, then press search again & get some results. Very frustrating.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for December 2002!

Hi Dan,

I couldn't register in Europe for reply on Monday, 9th at 15 GMT till my last try at 17 GMT. It was the first time I tried it so late. Normally I register till 10 GMT.
Maybe too much traffic in America?

Another item:
Sometimes I see my own messages signed with 'Volkma' - first I thought I missed the 'r' but now I watch for that and sometimes still no 'r'.
:-((

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for December 2002!

Hi Dan,

The time syncing still seems to be an issue. In this posting there has been a response before the posted date and time of the question. Also to note this was the last response to be posted not the first as listed.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for December 2002!

man these clocks are wacky.....

In this thread, Clay has his second reponse listed straight after his first. Scott's reply comment 'hmmmmmm' was before the second response. I know this as this was the order I saw before posting my 2 cents worth... Somebody out there can't tell the time.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for December 2002!

Hi Dan,

There is still a VERY SERIOUS timing issue. This is even worse than before. The time difference seems to be 20-30 minutes.

This thread: http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xcfb350dde50cd71190050090279cd0f9,00.html

is the most recent one. I responded first, then the poster and then Michael Tully. As Michael said, the response listed first is actually the last one that was posted.

The developers and / or admins for these machines need to figure out what the problem is and get it fixed ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for December 2002!

Patrick and Michael, thanks. I'll get them on it right now. The odd thing is that I've done a simple test by submitting messages to each server at the same time, and all show the same timestamp. Is it possible this could be a latency issue in the network somewhere? Anyhow, I'll get things going here....

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for December 2002!

Hi Dan,

I kind of doubt that it is a network issue. I don't think that much time had passed between when I responded and when the last response was posted.

It'll be interesting to see what you find out from the tech folks.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for December 2002!

I agree with Patrick. That much time was not elapsed. The time between when Patrick subitted his first posting after my second one was not 30 minutes. It couldn't have been any more than 10-15 tops.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for December 2002!

Hi Guys,,,,,I ran one other test and found one of the servers to be out of synch by roughly 30 minutes. Not sure why, as all were verified to be in synch just a few days ago, and I ran the same test to confirm it. I'm sure the tech team will know what to do, but if you have any ideas I'd be interested.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for December 2002!

Dan,

Did you do a search in the forum for "adjusting time"? ;~)knudge..knudge...knudge.

Seriously though, it will depend on whether it ahead or behind all the other servers & whether it's running time sensitive SW - like a database.

If it's behind (slow) you can usually just advance the time right where it needs to be. You won't upset any DBs - you'll just have a "time-hole".

If it's ahead then the best thing to do is stop the SW & reboot the system, catching it @ boot & resetting the time at that point & then let it boot the rest of the way.

In either scenario you need to find out why it's not syncing up. I suspect there's an NTP issue at play here - misconfigured, not installed/enabled, etc.

Cheers,
Jeff

Dan:

I haven't had any problems using this forum. I've started to depend on it as one of my primary resources for technical information. I also enjoy the conversations between the members. A very interesting group.

One thing I would like to be able to do is remove a reply that I've posted.

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for December 2002!

Hi Dan:

This is really amazing. Yet again, the time (mis)synchronization appears:

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x8ab550dde50cd71190050090279cd0f9,00.html

Note that Stefan's response occured at 08:47 AM GMT while the question wasn't posed until 09:10 AM GMT.

Doesn't anyone monitor the collection of servers offering Forum services?

Regards!

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for December 2002!

Hi Tom, thanks for the nice comments. If you need a post edited, please provide the URL were the post resides and a description of what you need done.

Jim, thanks for pointing this added example. There is a real time monitor in place for performance and availability (which has been excellent), however, the synchronization issue has crept back into one server for some reason. The team this morning added a script to ensure the times are always synched up, so we shouldn't see this again. This wasn't added until after Stefan's post, which is why there was another example in the forums. It looks like the question was posted through one of the synched servers, while Stefans reply was posted through the server that was lagging. Apologize to everyone for this inconvenience...but thanks to everyone's help and feedback, the situation is corrected and hopefully for good. :)

Take care,
Dan

My only gripe is the speed of the site.
Iam on a T1 and this site is the slowest

Dan,

I, too noticed it's been a bit sluggish today - mostly in submitting responses. At first I thought it was just me but everything else seems to be OK.

Hi Dan,
When I submit points for questions answered. I have to do so twice for it to take. I seem to remember a previous posting on this but do not remember the outcome and couldn't find it with a search.
What can I do about this?

Re: Please Submit Your ITRC Forums Issues for December 2002!

Hi Pete: appreciate the info. I just checked with the support team and all systems are fine, not sure what would be causing the slowdown.

Hi Kelli, the points issue is still lingering. However, I have the lab working on a fix and hope to have them unleash something soon.

Hi Paul, thanks for the comments. The odd thing is that we just tripled the capacity of the servers hosting this site. The performance measures being monitored indicate excellent end to end performance. Most pages, including the home page, are loading in 3 seconds or less. Even my dial up phone line at home is fairly quick to load. What browser are you using?

Thanks,
Dan
